AP‑4® grew from the shared scientific foundation of Dr Monica Takamiya Wik and Dr Peter Kristoffersen. As plant molecular biologists and co‑founders, they brought research‑led thinking to the selection, cultivation and documentation of rosehip, an approach that continues to guide SUKO Nordic today.
Long before SUKO Nordic was established, Monica Takamiya Wik and Peter Kristoffersen built their scientific careers in plant molecular biology at the Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding Research in Cologne. Their early work in plant identity, molecular biology and research documentation established the scientific principles later applied to AP‑4®.
Monica leads SUKO Nordic’s scientific and technical direction, with a particular focus on plant identity, careful selection and consistent product development.
Peter combines a background in plant molecular biology with the strategic development of SUKO Nordic’s selected plant varieties, controlled cultivation and traceable supply systems.
Monica and Peter applied their scientific approach to the evaluation and selection of rosehip plant material, examining identity, variation and consistency rather than treating rosehip as a generic raw material.
This work contributed to AP‑4®: one selected Rosa canina variety cultivated under controlled conditions on certified organic plantations in Southern Chile. Together with standardised production and full batch traceability, this forms the foundation of every AP‑4® ingredient supplied by SUKO Nordic.
AP‑4® is a selected and propagated Rosa canina variety supported by documented identity methods, applied at two distinct levels.
DNA-based identity verification supports plant identification; it does not by itself establish composition, potency or clinical efficacy.
A publicly deposited ITS2 sequence, catalogued in NCBI GenBank, supports identification of the plant material at species level (Rosa canina).
A separate, SUKO Nordic‑developed primer method supports distinction of AP‑4® from other Rosa canina varieties.
