MaquiPro® contains the specifically identified bacterial strain Lactiplantibacillus plantarum 299, deposited in an internationally recognised culture collection as DSM 6595. In earlier scientific literature, the species appears under its former name, Lactobacillus plantarum.
"299" identifies the individual strain, while "DSM 6595" is its culture-collection deposit number. This distinction matters because scientific observations are strain-specific and should not automatically be transferred from one L. plantarum strain to another.
Strain 299 was originally isolated from the human colon and appears in the scientific literature under the former designation Lactobacillus plantarum 299.
In a 1993 study, 13 healthy adults consumed a fermented oatmeal preparation containing 19 lactic acid bacterial strains once daily for 10 days. Strain 299 was one of the strains included in the preparation.
Strain 299 was subsequently recovered from intestinal mucosal samples collected one and eleven days after administration ended. This study documented recovery under those specific experimental conditions. It did not investigate MaquiPro® and should not be interpreted as evidence of a health benefit, permanent colonisation or an effect of the finished MaquiPro® formulation.

In MaquiPro®, Lactiplantibacillus plantarum 299 (DSM 6595) is combined with certified organic, freeze-dried maqui berry powder in a precisely defined formulation.
Each capsule provides a minimum of 0.5 billion CFU at the end of shelf life, corresponding to a minimum of 1 billion CFU in the recommended daily serving of two capsules.
The complete MaquiPro® formulation has been evaluated in clinical research conducted in collaboration with the University of Copenhagen. The findings have not yet been published. Until publication, research concerning either strain 299 or maqui berry should be presented as background science, not as proof of an effect of the finished formulation.
